Vsevolod V. Panteleenko

I recently graduated with Ph.D.degree from the University of Notre Dame, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, where I was working in System Software Research Group directed by Dr. Vincent Freeh. I also hold M.S. in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering degree from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

Research

My research interests include operating systems, networks and internet technologies. At Notre Dame, I was working on a Web Booster project. My work on this project included design and evaluation of the booster architecture for increasing a web site performance. Before comming to Notre Dame, I spent two and a half years at the IBM T.J. Watson Research center in Network Server Group. I was working there on several projects related to operating system design, object-oriented component architectures and Internet services. One of the projects, Lava operating system (renamed later into SawMill), addressed the problem of building customized operating systems by decomposing an operating system's functionality into reusable protected components. My participation in the project included designing and implementing a Lava caching Internet server, which was built using Lava services, designing and implementing an executive layer on top of Lava microkernel, which supported functionality of traditional OS kernels, designing and implementing a component substrate for Lava, and porting JavaOS on top of Lava. I also participated in the design of JavaOS.
