Homework Nine – Abilities
and responsibilities of ISPs and their customers.
Read the article at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7515809/ that discusses how ISPs
can install spam filters on email going out of their domain and how effective
this might be relative to other anti-spam efforts.
This article does not
mention it, but in principle it should be possible for an ISP to prevent
outgoing email from having an incorrect return address. This may raise issues of privacy / anonymity
concerns.
Write a short argument for:
(a) whether or not ISPs should prevent outgoing mail with incorrect return
addresses, and (b) whether or not the government should require this.
Two pages should be long enough for this homework.
