MS Program

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering usually does not offer a terminal Master of Science degree. However, for students who do not have an M.S. degree in computer science and engineering or a related field prior to entering the program, they are required to obtain an M.S. degree before completing the Ph.D. degree. The M.S. degree requires a minimum of twenty-four semester hours of course credit beyond the Bachelor Degree and one semester of research seminar. Included in the course work must be the 9 hours of department core courses. The course requirements can usually be completed by a full-time student in three or four academic semesters. In addition to the course requirement, the student must successfully pass the Ph.D. candidacy exam or, upon acceptance of the M.S. thesis, successfully pass an Oral M.S. Thesis Defense Exam.
